Mute one calendar on Mac without deleting its appointments
If one reference calendar is noisy but your own appointments still need reminders, turning off every Calendar notification is broader than the task. Apple provides Ignore alerts for an individual calendar. Identify the source first, then change the narrow setting.
Choose the smallest matching action
| Desired result | Control to inspect | What it is different from |
|---|---|---|
| Quiet one calendar in Mac Calendar | Get Info > Ignore alerts | Hiding or deleting its events |
| Quiet the entire Mac application | System Settings > Notifications > Calendar | One calendar’s preference |
| Quiet a shared-calendar message | Relevant Calendar message preference | An event’s timed alert |
Identify the noisy calendar and the sending app
A fictional family keeps a personal appointment calendar and a club reference feed. The club feed supplies too many reminders, but the family still wants to see its fixtures. The intended change is “keep the fixtures, stop that calendar’s alerts on this Mac,” not “remove the club’s access” or “silence all appointments.”
Check the app name on an unwanted notification and the calendar owning its event. Another app can send its own notification for related data. A Mac Calendar preference does not establish that every phone or app using the same schedule is quiet.
Use the per-calendar control
In Calendar on Mac, show the calendar list if necessary with View > Show Calendar List. Control-click the relevant calendar’s name, choose Get Info, select Ignore alerts, then click OK. Reopen the setting to verify the intended calendar was changed.
To restore that calendar’s alerts, use the same route and deselect Ignore alerts. Apple documents this as a per-calendar notification control. It does not delete the calendar’s appointments or cancel a meeting for its guests.
Keep broader switches separate
Calendar > Settings > Alerts includes other signals, such as Time to Leave and shared-calendar or invitation messages. System Settings > Notifications > Calendar controls application-level permission and notification behavior. These controls answer different questions from ignoring one calendar’s event alerts.
If the goal is to retain personal appointment reminders, leave the broader arrangement alone while checking the reference calendar. If the noise is actually a shared-calendar change message rather than an event alert, follow that message’s relevant preference instead of assuming Ignore alerts is the universal switch.
Check the intended outcome without changing a live meeting
For the family example, keep a record of the changed calendar and preference. Observe a suitable harmless future example where supported, and separately confirm an ordinary personal reminder still follows its intended configuration.
Cloud Calendars has its own notification settings. This page describes the native Mac app. Do not delete a real appointment or leave a shared calendar just to diagnose extra notifications; preserve the schedule and narrow the sender and signal first.

What to do
- Identify the sending app and owning calendar.
- Use Get Info > Ignore alerts for the intended calendar.
- Verify the saved preference without deleting events.
- Check broader notification controls only if the desired result is broader.
Questions
- Do I need to unsubscribe to stop one calendar’s alerts?
- Not when the intended task is covered by its Ignore alerts control. Unsubscribing changes the calendar arrangement itself.
- Will this silence Cloud Calendars on my phone?
- This guide does not establish that. Inspect the phone app’s own settings and sender separately.
