Outlook RSVP missing in Google Calendar? Check the event’s response-email switch

Turning off response emails for a Google Calendar event can affect more than inbox noise. Google’s current help says this event-level choice also stops third-party RSVP statuses, including Outlook replies. Inspect that setting before treating an unknown response as proof that a guest did not reply.

Identify the exact meeting and response source

Open the organizer’s original event on a computer and confirm the calendar, date and intended guest address. A copied appointment or a forwarded message may not describe the invitation you are trying to reconcile.

For a fictional workshop, one guest uses Google Calendar and another uses Outlook. The organizer reduced response emails before sending the invitation. Record each guest’s service and observed response state separately; do not assume a single blank row has the same explanation for both people.

Distinguish event-level and calendar-wide controls

In Google Calendar on a computer, create or edit the actual event, inspect “Get an email when guests respond,” then click Save after any intended change. Google says this checkbox applies to one event or its recurring series. It is separate from Settings for my calendars > the calendar > Other notifications > Event responses. Do not infer the event checkbox’s state merely from that calendar-wide preference or a phone sound setting.

The official help explicitly says disabling this event-level option stops response mail, third-party RSVP statuses and automatic replies. It says Google Calendar guests’ statuses can still be inspected, while guests using services such as Outlook cannot be checked that way with the option off.

Use a response evidence ledger

For the workshop, keep columns for guest identity, service, response communicated directly, and status currently observed on the organizer’s event. If the Outlook participant confirms acceptance by another channel, record that as direct confirmation rather than inventing a calendar status.

If you intentionally change the event’s response-email choice, save it and use a cooperative non-sensitive test or the provider’s current support route to check future behavior. The source does not promise that turning the switch back on reconstructs every historical reply, so do not state that as the expected repair.

Keep attendance and access out of the diagnosis

A guest may be able to read the event yet have an unknown response; another may have replied earlier to a time that has since changed. Ask for the attendance decision that matters now instead of treating successful access or a quiet inbox as a headcount.

This is a Google event response setting. It is not a Cloud Calendars share acceptance, a Microsoft delegate permission or a general ban on Outlook invitations. Preserve the event and identity evidence while diagnosing the specific route.

What to do

  1. Identify the organizer’s original event and invited address.
  2. Inspect the event-level response-email checkbox.
  3. Record Google and third-party guest observations separately.
  4. Confirm important attendance directly and avoid promising historical reply backfill.

Questions

Is the per-event checkbox the same as global response-email settings?
Google says they are separate. Inspect the choice on the actual event or series.
Will re-enabling it recover all earlier Outlook replies?
The cited help does not establish historical backfill. Verify current behavior and confirm important attendance with the guest.
