Changed a meeting’s location on Mac? Recheck Travel Time as well

A new venue does not guarantee an updated travel allowance in Calendar on Mac. Apple explicitly says Travel Time does not update automatically when you change locations. Reopen both fields before relying on a departure plan.

Keep three scheduling facts separate

For a fictional workshop, the start remains 14:00, the venue changes from a nearby office to a farther site, and the saved travel allowance is still 20 minutes. The event time, destination and journey allowance are three different facts. A correct new address alone does not prove the old allowance is useful.

Confirm whether the workshop also requires early arrival. Do not move its shared start time earlier to represent your personal departure. Write the intended venue, arrival requirement and selected travel allowance before editing.

Reopen the native Mac event fields

In Calendar on Mac, double-click the event. Apple documents selecting a location from the matching results after entering an address or business. It also permits keeping entered location text verbatim when no result is selected. Check that the stored destination is the one you intend, rather than relying on a similar venue name.

Inspect the separate Travel Time menu and select an appropriate option. Apple’s explicit warning is that changing locations does not automatically update travel time. Use your navigation or transport source for a current route assessment rather than assuming the previous allowance was recalculated.

Check the alert, not just the block on screen

Apple’s Mac notification guide offers Time to Leave as an alert when a location is present. It also has a Calendar > Settings > Alerts Time to Leave preference. That signal is different from a plain fixed reminder such as 30 minutes before the start.

For the workshop, reopen the saved alert choice and the destination after changing the venue. If you also keep a separate departure entry, check that it does not still point to the old site. No universal route accuracy or on-time arrival guarantee follows from any alert label.

Verify the shared and personal outcomes

The organizer needs the correct workshop venue in the actual invitation. You need a realistic personal route plan and departure reminder. Confirm a consequential venue change directly with affected people as well as through the calendar update.

This page describes Mac Calendar controls. Cloud Calendars’ weather and event location features do not establish the same Travel Time behavior or controls. Use the existing travel/weather guide for the broader journey check, and keep the owning provider authoritative for the meeting.

What to do

  1. Confirm the meeting’s actual start and new venue.
  2. Reopen Travel Time rather than assuming it updated.
  3. Review any Time to Leave or fixed alert separately.
  4. Verify the saved invitation and communicate important venue changes.

Questions

Does changing location recalculate saved Mac Travel Time automatically?
Apple’s guide says it does not. Recheck the Travel Time field after the move.
Is Time to Leave identical to a 30 minute alert?
No. A fixed offset and the native Time to Leave option are separate choices; inspect the actual saved alert.
